Not the end of the world, we'll just have to use points cards. Could be worse.

Question: I know the European Wii will have RGB support, but will a US Wii also support RGB? My TV doesn't support component and I would hate to have to use s-video or composite to connect the Wii up to my TV.

I think it's very likely that the American version will work with an RGB SCART cable but I will only add this to the FAQ once we know for definite. I'd imagine the way it will be done these days is one single chip in all versions of the console worldwide that can output all common signal formats.

The console can support Y/Pb/Pr (Component) natively (unlike the GameCube which needed extra hardware in the Component cable) and on almost any chipset design it should be trivial for the chip to detect an RGB cable and send R/G/B instead.

You're right - it'll work.

The exact same DAC is now housed internally - the chip will switch mode (changing the AV port's output) when you plug in your UK/Eur RGB cable.

See NTSC machine internal below, overlayed is the Gamecube Component/D Terminal cable internal. They are using the exact same chip - so not only does this machine support RGB as standard, it's damn good RGB and as V-Sync and H-Sync can be tapped also - you'll see 3rd party VGA cables soon too.

Saurian, hey!

It's the exact same DAC? Fan-f*cking tastic news, looks like we're up for another generation of top quality 480p output

Q: What about buying Wii Points? How do I buy American Wii points in the UK? Can I use a credit card and buy them through my TV or do I need to order points cards from the US?
It's been reported that importers will be able to buy Wii points, but NOT directly through the console's interface using a credit card as it lacks the necessary country options. You can't select UK as your country, therefore the credit card address won't match.
Wii Points: Can't we just buy some on eBay and ask the seller to email us the points code instead of just waiting for the card to arrive via post?
