Utacchi (JPN DS)

Played this a while so i thought i might as well shove a first play up.

If you have no idea what this is, it's a new music rhythm game from Konami that's a spin off from the pop n music series of games. Usually Konami screw things up when they release it onto nintendo systems as they dumb it right down & make it super easy. Luckily this time they have made a balanced game that is easy to learn & yet challenging on the harder difficulty modes.

Heres a video of how the game plays....

Theres 4 types of notes you have to hit, red ones are just a tap, blues you tap & hold, then release as the end of the note finishes, greens are like blues but you have to wiggle the stylus up & down while holding, and yellows you tap then flick up. You can also change the difficulty of each song so you can play 1 lane 3 lanes or 5 lanes & you can also choose weither to do normal or hard. You can also choose colour modifiers too once you unlock them that makes all the notes the same colour for added hardness. If you 100% a song you get a crown & if you did it perfectly & got nearly all goods you get a gold crown.

Theres 40 songs to unlock & theres a decent mix of stuff in there, all the songs that aren't konami originals are cover versions but not too bad. Well apart from one thats so bad it sounds like the programming team got drunk & had bad karaoke night

In single player theres campaign mode where you play through & get points which you use in the shop to unlock more songs. Also at the end of each stage you get a scratch card, if you get a high enough score you get a rare scratch card that gives you a game mode instead of more points like the regular cards do if you win on it.

There are also other modes in single player theres free mode where you can select the character you want to play with & then just play away without having to do the scratchcard bit after every song, then theres voice mode where before you select a song you can record your voice & have the game use that for the songs. Theres also karaoke mode where you can sing the notes instead of tapping them, in each note theres the kana of the word you need to sing & on the top screen are the lyrics to the song if you want to go karaoke crazy. Theres also arrange mode where you can play any of the songs with just the tapping notes.

The game also has multiplayer mode but i haven't tried that out as i don't have anyone else who has the game hehe. Pretty fun game really, nice to have another competent music game to play.
