Arcade games on your TV.

When playing an 'arcade' game on your TV, for Eg, Cave Shmup, or something off wiiware, or a dreamcast shooter, or an arcade compilation..

Do you...sit right up by the TV, as if you were on a machine (arcade)

Or..more relaxed, on your bed/sofa or usual position..

I'm just keen to know preferences..

When I moved into my new place, before the sofa was delivered, I was playing Shinobi, sitting on a stool, right infront of the screen...

Now I'm back to the more laid back sofa...

Laptop speaker issue?

Was listening to some MP3s on my laptop and I noticed that a couple of the instrument "lines" inside a couple of songs were missing. They appeared to be gone or very quiet on the laptop's speakers, but were fine when I plugged in the headphones. What might cause this, and is it something that I can fix, or is it going to have to be a phone the hardware support desk time?

Japanese Dreamcast Console - Where to buy?

I'm after a no frills Japanese Dreamcast console.
May I ask the best place to buy one?

(can i run it off a UK plug - or is it stepdown only?)

Been in and out of Dreamcast since its release, but makes perfect sense to own a Japanese unit - for me.

Couldn't find a thread on this so please merge if I missed one. Coming next year, this is the next part of Marvels Avengers ensemble plans. Fantastic Fours Chris Evans plays the main character and sadly I can�t upload any pics as currently they have begun work on transforming the street I work on from grubby Manchester to war era 1940�s America for filming a vehicle based action sequence. It�s going to be massively weird walking out of work when it�s all done. If any interesting bits come up I�ll post them here, looks to be a much bigger scale shoot than when Sherlock Holmes filmed here.

Correctly encoding AVIs for car player. HELP!

I need a little bit of help encoding divx/xvid files to play on my son's in-car dvd player (parents will appreciate how important this is!). I'm totally at my wit's end with it...

I have several files, from several sources, some work, some don't. I want to re-encode the non-working ones so that they do work. All of them, as far as I'm aware, are AVI of some kind... presumably DIVX or XVID?

I've used MediaInfo to find out what software, and the codec versions, were used on the working ones and tried to get them all together. I ended up using virtualdub and virtualdubmod, as well as nandub.

I've re-encoded the non-working ones to be the same codec as the working ones, even resized them to have the same resolution, but they still don't play on the player. I also tried taking a working one, and re-encoding that again with codecs I had previously tried, and that still works! So there must be something else, other than the resolution or codec?

The DVD player is a Next-Base Click & Go 7. The manufactorers release no information on file formats at all

And yes, it does play DVDs, and yes, that is probably what I will end up having to use :( But I'd rather take one SD card on holiday than a pile of DVDs...

I'm totally at a loss as to what to try next. Any help much appreciated, thanks!

1080p videos stutter

Hello

I have the same problem with any 1080p (1920x1080) video i try to play on my pc.

The video plays the sound fine but the image skips, pauses then jumps constantly, so i wodnere dis there a min spec needed to play videos at this res?

at the moment my pc is:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Processor 3.01 ghz
2 GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce 9800GT
& I'm using the latest versions of FFDshow as a codec

can anyone offer any suggestions? more ram perhaps?

Hi,

I recently purchased a JP Xbox 360 and after setup I 'recovered' my Gamertag on it. It currently has no hard drive and it is saved on the internal memory. I will be adding a hard drive soon.

Today I switched on my PAL console (with a hard drive) and it said something about my Gamertag being recovered on another system, and that I would need to recover it again (on the PAL one) to be able to sign in.

How can I avoid this conflict? Is it not possible to have my profile on each hard drive (or internal memory like I have for now) for both consoles and just sign in?

I was getting ready to start Alan Wake the other day and so I had a flick through the manual and it sounded quite interesting. A guy gets writers block, heads out to some remote woods and then, oh, ghosts or spirits or some shit. Yawn. Here we go again.

Film and TV don't have this problem, there are plenty of thrillers and action movies that are intense and action-packed without having to remove themselves so far from reality. Why can't I think of many games that do the same?

So, are there any story-based games that don't have such obvious elements of fantasy like monsters or mutants or spirits or zombies or magic or just anything really. Are there any unique gaming IPs that you can play and just think "this could be real?"

Heavy Rain is the one that obviously comes to mind, but even that turns a bit stupid with the § FBI guy's glasses. §

I'm sure there's plenty of real life war-based games that fit the bill, but is there anything else that does it with a bit more imagination?
