Best to add, our contact with GamePointsNow is Simon Ward who's done reviews for NTSC-uk and is a forum member.

A 12 months sub is only £34.99 at play.com so even with the discount this costs £2.50 more.

It's a nice idea for the immediacy factor I suppose. I might renew my sub with GamePointsNow this Sept when it runs out.

Hi all - thanks for the introduction/thread charles, I'm Simon Ward/unknowncitizen.

Admittedly our prices are a little more than Play, but we're not based in Jersey and so pay VAT on all our goods - giving back to the community and all. Over time, we'll be able to offer you better prices and harder-to-get stuff like USA/Japanese Wii cards for those who have imported hardware.

If anyone has any comments or suggestions, they'd all be appreciated.

Thanks!

Am I right in thinking that 2100 360 Marketplace points are only 17.49 in the shops anyway? Sure I paid that today. Not nitpicking as I think this is a good idea, saves me trawling ebay when I'm desperate to pick up some points on the quick.
Will be using in the future no doubt!

What is the benefit of doing this as opposed to just buying them straight through the console?

Not everyone has a credit card. I wish MS would let me use my Debit Card to get them but they dont.

Not being a picky so-and-so TeenWolf, and not trying to hyjack the thread UC, but I use a Debit card with my 360 and it all works swimmingly. (Visa debit BTW)

And EvilBoris, I think Unknown Citizens site is cheaper than MS (the only one I looked at TBH), and you have the advantage of not having to store your card details with the evil corporation. Also you get the code straight away, and you get a fuzzy feeling by helping out a fellow forumite.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Good luck to you BTW Simon, I will use you if and when the need arises.

:)

:)

I think that your card works fine because it is in effect a kind of Visa card, being Maestro/Switch card holder I cant use it. Wish they would sort it out saves me buying a DVD sized case for something which would fit in my wallet. Anyway back on topic, I shall be giving you guys a try when I find something to spend my last 1000 points on :thumb:

I know there's unlikely to be a huge market for them, but I've been trying in vain to find somewhere to buy points cards for the Japanese Xbox Live Marketplace. If you could get those up for sale, you'd have at least one customer :thumb:

putting myself forward as a test dummy I just ordered some XBLA from gamespointsnow - paid via paypal at 3pm, the codes arrived in my inbox less than 60 seconds later.

job well done tbh

unknown_citizen
12-07-2007, 03:15 PM
Thanks John, the main benefits of the site have been touched upon - many people can't/don't want to link their credit cards to their xbox/wii, especially if it's a shared console.

Our codes are sent instantly automatically; some people on ebay offer a comparable service but their emails are manually sent so you can be waiting for up to 12 hours and the prices can vary quite dramatically.

Buying from retail stores takes time with transportation costs etc and they're not open at 2am in the morning when you really want some game points now!

We are an alternative to those other places, giving you instant codes without paying through your console, without the wait of snail mail, and without the time and extra financial costs of going to a shop.

We don't sell what we don't have, so if you can take it to the checkout you know it's in stock.

Thanks debug, the tech guy is looking into it now. Incidentally, if anyone's got any comments or constructive criticisms of the site, we'd like to hear them.

On out of stock Wii points: They're back ordered and we're in the process of establishing a few more suppliers so we can ensure they're constantly stocked. As we've not been going long, it's been difficult gauging how much we need in. The aim of course, is to always be in stock. Hopefully, they should be back in tommorow or Monday. Very sorry though!

They're European points so as long as your Xbox Live tag is registered in Europe, then they'll work. I see you just bought some so give me a shout if you have any problems

*impatient* lolz

[edit] Sorry to be the first dissatisfied customer, but this still hasn't gone through and despite my paypal account stating the money has been sent my email is mocking me with its lack of code. Bit of a pisser seeing as I was only supposed to pop away from the 360 to get the code for Puzzle Fighter. Anyway, my account still tells me I have purchased no points, yet paypal states otherwise. When I try to get the code re-sent it tells me my email is not registered though it is and I still have the activation email.

*sigh*

AllYourBase

Paypal is a bit crap as a payment option on websites. You always need to remember to his the "return to merchant" button so that the callback is made to the shop you bought from.

That may be why it didn't send you the code. Just email them and let them know.

Jusatsushi
01-09-2007, 11:56 AM
I was a bit pissed at the time as I wanted the game points now (heh) but the automated system sent the code to an old email registered on paypal rather than the email I used with the site itself. I'm impressed how quickly they got it sorted to be honest and take back any negative impressions.

Just a quick update on Game Points Now:

- We're now stocking most online RPG codes such as World of Warcraft, City of Heroes/Villains & Lord of the Rings Online

- We're running a weekly competition from now until who knows when to give everyone a chance to get their hands on a free code of their choice.

It'll run every Wednesday and the closest response to the correct answer wins a code of their choice. It's a bit like guess how many sweets are in the jar, but instead of sweets you win points and it's free to enter.

We're not a massive site with a customer base like Play or Game and it's being run every week so you've got a pretty good chance of winning. You can see the full details here:

http://www.gamepointsnow.com/competition

We've had to rejig the site a bit, in that we now need to verify your address before you buy codes. It's a totally free, quick process and we can verify you either by post or phone - or established ntscuk members can drop me a pm and we'll instantly verify you.

If you've bought from us before, you'll be automatically verified.

Totally annoyed with this service. The verification process should have been easy as i entered my home phone number, waited a few hours and had no call. I phoned them up and asked them why and the guy said they had to send a letter for some reason which wasnt explained to me. Ive still not recieved this damn letter and have instead bought the points off an Ebay seller who actually does send the points instantly.

Maybe the site should be called GamePointsSoon or better yet GamePointsNever.

Ajay... did you read the post a few posts above where you can PM unknown_citizen to get authorised immediately? :(

unknown_citizen
16-10-2007, 02:37 PM
We need to verify people's addresses by letter to prevent fraud. As for why it hasn't arrived yet, it's probably due to the Royal Mail strikes, I know a lot of our post we're expecting in has been delayed. Once the letter does arrive, you can register and all your future points will be sent instantly.

Hi John,

I do the technical stuff for GamePointsNow.

We haven't deleted any user's login details, and from our logs, you never created an account with us. You did buy from us previously (before we required a login to use the site) so this may be where the confusion has come from.

As you use Gmail, you can confirm you haven't registered with a quick search for "GamePointsNow.com - Login Details" which is the subject of the email we sent out when people make a new account.

In regards to waiting for verification, because you bought from us previously, you don't have to be verified. It says this on the FAQ and the registration page (although it was on the second page of the registration, I've moved it to the first page to be clearer). Also, as Simon said previously, NTSC-UK members can PM him to instant verification.

I hope this clears everything up for you! If you have any other comments or questions please post them here.

Any update for US PSN points ? as I can't use my credit card with US Account.

These still don't seem widely available and aren't available from any of our wholesale sources. Once we can get them, they will appear on the site.

On US Wii points - being VAT registered in the UK, we have to add VAT onto our imported items which bumps the price up, unfortunately.
