Cool, at least its the arcade version.

Anyway the achievements are rather easy. All I need after 1 game and about 5 continues is 2 online achievements and completing it without dying.

I got up expecting Bomberman and I saw Golden Axe, I`m made up!

Just had a go on the trial version and managed to get to level 4 before the time ran out, great fun.

The achievements don`t look too bad but they don`t state what skill level or conditions are needed to unlock them, so I`d take it that easiest settings can be used to unlock some of the harder achievements in teh game.

Gonna get the full version now.

Chumpydoo, if i get this we can unlock the local mode with each other.

Does it have improved graphics though, the old ones would look rather dated now id imagine.

HD graffics would be nice ;)

This is actually really nice for 400 points, and the best version ive played upto now. Its so much better than the Megadrive version of course as its the true arcade....well worth the points.

Loving this!!! Forgot about the special attack (?A+B) so was fun when that was figured out - some fool disconnected just after we beat the last boss tho so didn't get the GP.
Will be fun to do again tho.

Totally agree. I had this on MD import back in the day, and was blown away, but the Arcade version was best.

This is a totally faithful emulation of the Jamma board, really nice.

I've done all the achievements bar "local coop" and had a blast.

Folk may not realise it, but the use of special attack, dodge, run and magic make for quite a skillfull game. It takes a special nerve to do "One hit" turn "one hit" when surrounded, and pulling it off is satisfying.

400 points was well worth it I think.

does the red fire ball breathing dragon now appear in the third stage, and do the balck guys in the fourth stage never use running attacks?

if so, I'm getting it.

Double Dragon isn't a great game. Golden Axe is! :)

I would bet a lot of money that most gamers would enjoy GA far more than DD. DD is an older game, and one of the earliest scrolling fighters. I've never liked the game.

Golden Axe is still one of the best scrolling fighters. Its visuals, movement, sound, controls, are still a joy. A true golden oldie.

Does anyone know why soundbites from "Rambo: First Blood" are used in the game or vice versa? Its been bothering me for years.

Why do they keep releasing the 1st Golden Axe instead of the superior arcade only Revenge Of Death Adder? It's still yet to appear on any console as far I know. Have Sega forgotten the game exists or something? There's no reason not to release it on one of the formats and being 4 player it's ideal for online play.

Can someone explain how the scoring system works, and how you get maximum points? I am a massive fan of this game, have been since the arcade was released - but I have never worked this out. I finished the game yestersday in one player mode without getting hit using the dwarf, yet I am no way near the top of the rankings.

How do I improve my score?

I would love to know about the scores too. I managed to plow through the game loosing a single life and finishing the game with full health, recieviing an A++++ rating but only 139 points. The top pointage scorer has 270 odd I think.

From my experience, not many people know about Revenge Of Death Adder. It was released at a time when 2D scrolling fighters weren't massively popular anymore.

The fact is, more gamers have fond memories of the original Golden Axe. It's still a great game, let's hope that Revenge does appear on a console sometime. :)

I never knew that, and I bet SEGA have no idea where their sound man back in the day got his sound effects from.

Edit - following baggie's post below

And so they do..must have been tripping earlier lol. You can certainly go 2x 3 hit combos or 2x 5 hit combos for most baddies (which maybe gives a better score?) but certainly no DD style whoring! Maybe no magic perhaps? Or using the reverse special to finish off baddies? Or the devastating running/jump down thrust move? Gah, I really want to know now and a brief google didn't help!

Stroppy
16-07-2007, 02:53 PM
I thought Golden Axe's baddies had limited hit taking capabilities, ie if one was on his last legs, even a glancing blow with a sword would kill him. I could be wrong, but I'm sure the MD version works like that - I know this is the arcade version.

Right some tips needed on the final boss battle. I can get to the boss with 3 lives and 1 energy remaining but can't beat him. Need this for the final achievement as I will be doing the coop run wth my 5yr old son tonight

'tis a bit of a sod isn't he - well the Skeleton's are the ones that pee me off actually. Trick is to save very often - I got to the final boss on my second life, and still just scraped through, obviously save your magic if possible otherwise just run about alot until you get a clear shot at him, can't think of musch else sorry - assume you realise you only need to kill the guy with the axe to complete the game.

You can continue as many times as you wish to get the local co-op achievement, I did it on my own (with two controllers) last night, just had to move second character across the screen now and again - plus when they continue they get a bit of magic :)

This is my first 200/200 game, wasn't the 60/90 minute whore fest I was lead to believe (a360p.com) but was great fun :)

I am going to try to do it in local coop without myself dieing. Will use my son as the tank and stay away from trouble as much as possible (have heard you can do it this way as long as the live tag player doesn't continue)

DavidHolliss
19-07-2007, 11:58 AM
Ah I see, should work fine. Still won't be a "walk in the park" though :D

Funnily enough tried to get my daughter to help me out but she was too busy texting her friends, need to sharpen up on my parenting skills eh.

Death Adder has two vulnerabilities:

First: when he(s knocked down, he is vulnerable for a short period before he gets up. Stand over him, and do a jumping attack just before he gets up, and he will never be able to get back up again.

Second: works best with the dwarf - stay just out of range, and wait till he prepares his ground yellow magic attack. Before he does that, use your special attack, which will be quicker than his attack. The dwarf's rolling axe thrust has the longest range.

The skeletons are indeed sods, especially in the VC / Megadrive version, when they never seem to die when guarding the upper Death Adder.

A little late to the party on this one as I've only just picked myself up some Points. It's been great fun playing local co-op games with my little brother and mate! Really enjoying it, and the achievements seems stupidly easy!

Anyone fancy going for the Live co-op game achievement tonight:thumb: ?
