Even if it was the crappy remastered pioneer dub I would care as long as the HD was good.

Love that film!

Is there anyway in hell we can dowload this over here???

I've got the SD version but I really need a HD version now I know one exists & as I dont own the HD Drive or a HD player this is the best I can hope for & those bloody idiots at Microsoft dont seem to do anything good for us on the Video side of Marketplace do they :( :(

Nope, they don't and it's crap. Hopefully, Sony will get their act together selling their own media through PSN and place more pressure on MS to remain competitive.

This is exactly the kind material which makes people outside the US resent the lack of emphasis on its development in other regions.

It's funny but with the pressure always being put on people not to torrent stuff, it turns out the only option we have in Europe is to... torrent stuff.

If there was at least an HD DVD release with subs we could import, but the Japanese disc linked on this thread looks to be blu-ray and so probably region coded and without subtitles. It's also comically expensive. (as is the norm for optical media in Japan)

As for the pathetic lack of a video marketplace outside of the US, while I can understand the rights difficulties with TV shows (which could be sold to many local networks all over the world), it should be much easier with movies and that it has taken so long shows that MS either don't care, or are totally incompetent.

I would like to have access to this but this will surely make the bigger HDD an essential purchase?

I might aswell order a HDDVD disc since I got that drive anyway.

I'm not personally too interested in Akira, but it seems silly that I can't download any Marketplace Videos.

How do we get around this Geo-filter nonsense? How about us NTSC-UK'rs get together and find someone nice :D who's in America and can set up a private DNS redirect service for forum subscribers? It must be possible to get around this silly restriction.

Let's wait and see if they bring it over or not ???

This post (http://www.animeondvd.com/forum/showpost.php?pid/447178/) from over at AnimeonDVD, the source being the Bandai Visual JP's website. I am keeping an eye on it to double check though because I have them preordered, but will cancel if they aren't subbed. Apparently the same discs will be used in the US releases (Bandai Visual do their own distribution in the US).

Yep, Cam Clarke:

He's been in too many TV shows and games to count and I think tried to launch a music career.

Money being thrown away there. Now we have the internet, we need global laws relating to media. Local ones are meaningless now.

Related to Akira, I got the latest Otomo Katsuhiro creation today on HD DVD. It's called Freedom and in true Japanese style is just one episode on the disc, and it's 20 minutes long. The packaging is Japanese style too (despite this being a US release), and has a gorgeous piece of Otomo art on the front.

I've yet to watch it but am intrigued to do so, as it's an Appleseed like all CG production, but cell shaded. I'm also a sucker for anything Otomo does, the guy is a legend. Oh and the HD DVD apparently has a load of HDi interactive stuff on it too.

Yup, hes openly gay. But it doesn't mean he isn't awesome in MGS, Akira and also Grandia 2.
