Until MS/Nelson get their finger out their bottom and provide us with some kind of XBLA/XBMP schedule/calendar I thought we could gather our collective knowledge here to keep up to speed with any forthcoming content we're aware of (these last few weeks everybody has been on the ball for the XBLA downloads hopefully it'll continue).
I know we've got a Forza2 demo coming this month and I'm preying we get a Stranglehold demo too. As well as that, the Halo2 maps are due 18/4 and hopefully the beta won't be too far behind them !
So,

The konami website now has an XB Arcade section with some previously unannounced games on it. Can't remember any off the top of my head though :D
edit - ok so they have been announced.
They do have release dates, though clearly wrong as Gyruss was meant to be released in March.

These sorts of list just end up bringing disappointment and resentment.
Endless whining about title x or y not releasing.
Why not just wait until Wed and see what comes? It's like flicking to the back of the book and finding the butler did it.

Seems that it's Luxor 2 (http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/04/02/this-week-on-arcade-luxor.aspx) this week on XBLA - or d/l the PC version here (http://www.spintop-games.com/puzzle_game_download/luxor_2.html) - ok, so it's exactly the same as Zuma ( well apart from the cursor moves on the horizontal rather than rotating ), so I won't be buying this then.

Wow, Talisman! That's a blast from my nerdy youth past there right
The last of Capcom's just-announced batch of downloadable games in development is Talisman, based on the board game of the same name from Games Workshop. Set for release on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC this winter, Talisman is playable online or offline by up to four players, takes place in a swords-and-sorcery setting, and is "based very closely" on the board game. Talisman will also feature downloadable expansion packs in the future with character updates, adventure card updates, and alternate endings.

You guys missed out the best part:

The Capcom arcade classic receives a whole new look as Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix comes to both the, PLAYSTATION® Network and Xbox LIVE this fall. bland?
http://fark.pbwiki.com/f/WTF-Scary-Cat.jpg
we had a shape shifting humanoid form, a russian electric punk opera singer with a little girl as a friend, a really old hermit who lives in a sack and fights with one arm, a pants wearing electric/metal god of some description, his older half fire/half ice brother and a mysterious trenchcoat and hat wearing metal faced monster who nobody knows anything about.
i'd hardly say bland... of little interest to you perhaps but certainly not bland.

I think most people are more interested in how the characters play than their life story mate. I wasn't too impressed with sf3 either really, but that's probably because I didn't have the time to dedicate to it that I had to sf2, rather than them actually being poor.
I'm well looking forwards to this though, I think there's far more of a jump from sf2HF than people are giving credit, and despite the graphics being worse, it's not an inferior game to sfz3 or 3rd strike, it's just different. I doubt that many people have really played it competitively (vs) against decent ppl that much, so live will be good too (I hope). Though I guess some people will have done it already with sf anniversary on xbox1

i think the problem with the sf3 guys is they're all pretenders to the throne :(
i mean c'mon, rye-yoo? zangeef? they're like role models!
we know that ryu hates spiders, fei long hates apathy, and that blanka got electrocuted by something.
we know why vega wears his mask, and why sagat's got his scar.
we hated bison for killing chun li's pops, and we loved it when ryu smashed that guy's nose in in the sf2 anime.
we've gone through so much with the original cast that i don't think there's any room for such useless facts as Visitor Q's favourite motor oil, or whether Elena's seen lion king.
i just found out about ssf2t a few minutes ago thanks to phillai, and it's made my sunday, it really has.

Exactly what I mean. Personally, I just prefer the SF2 crew to the SF3 batch. Just a personal preference. I grew up with them guys. Me and Zangief used to go the park together and...
SF3 is a great game, but I just prefer SSF2T over it and it is mainly due to the characters on offer. Plus I love to do Zangief's super on it. Very rewarding. I do like Hugo and Dudley though.

and i agree with this though i'm not sure if that's purely down to the fact sf2 was the daddy back then and literally everywhere in magazines so i read so much about it. i grew up with sf2, sf3 just appeared and plonked a bunch of character i knew nothing about in front of me to play with.
i've always said if the sf3 engine was fired into sfa3's character list i'd literally die with happiness.

I'd argue it would be utterly foolish to release two games on a day if it meant that weeks of no content would follow. Nobody has asked for 2 games a week, so to do so without provocation would say to me they are confident of the content being ready.
Maybe, just MAYBE they've learnt how to do this.

Not read any feedback on Gyruss.
Well then, here goes : a highly disappointing conversion, mainly due to a few graphic bugs and a very dodgy soundtrack (the original tune is a mere shadow of its formal self : some essential intruments are missing. Worse still : the catchy music on the bonus stages is totally gone, not to mention some bizarre sounds that can be heard now and then). The "enhanced mode" fares little better.
Despite all that, Gyruss remains a classic and as such, is still fun to play.

I actually enjoyed playing the golf game yesterday. Its a fair bit different to the demo (which seems to be the case of late!) but its just far too buggy. For example theres one achievement where you have to collect 4 medals. I collected 1 and it gave me the achievement anyway.
I think the demo may put(t) people off because the physics are different on each hole, but if you're playing the full game then they're rather more consistent. i.e. you play several holes in the wild west with the same gravity, then several holes at the fun fun with the same gravity, and then it moves to outer space where its all a bit floaty, but it doesnt come as a total contrast. That said, I still wouldnt recommend the golf but it is a bit of fun.

bowling games have all now been rendered irrelevent after the sublime Wii sports bowling, how can anything improve on that, its pretty much perfect.

Except Wii bowling doesn't come with a potential 200 gamerpoints and those are like crack to some of you. :D
it may warrant a general gaming thread in its own right but is Wii Bowling the first game to genuinely render any further games in its own genre un-necessary due to it being pretty much perfect ?

LONDON, May 3, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Empire Interactive, a wholly owned subsidiary of Silverstar Holdings (NasdaqCM:SSTR (http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=sstr) - News (http://finance.yahoo.com/q/h?s=sstr)), today announced that it will bring the furious excitement of the classic Speedball II: Brutal Deluxe to the Xbox 360(tm) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft via Xbox LIVE(r) Arcade. The highly anticipated title was recently voted one of the most wanted games for Xbox LIVE Arcade in an article by the Computer and Video Games website. Its arrival will please both hard-core fans and new generations of gamers who have yet to experience what some believe is the finest combat sports game ever made.
The Bitmap Brothers classic, Speedball, was first released for the Amiga in 1990 and quickly became a huge success. However, it wasn't until the release of its sequel, Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe that the title reached new gaming heights and sold over two million units. It is still considered by many to be one of the best games of all time. The Xbox LIVE Arcade version is a perfect conversion of Speedball II: Brutal Deluxe but with the addition of an all-new High Definition version, more teams and downloadable content.
This new Xbox LIVE Arcade version of Speedball II will enhance this classic game while still retaining all the classic elements that have made it a firm favorite among gamers.
``We are pleased to be bringing this all-time classic to Xbox LIVE Arcade,'' commented Ian Higgins, CEO of Empire Interactive. ``With its brutal and addictive gameplay, and the ability to play multiplayer over Xbox LIVE, we are sure this will be the definitive version of Speedball.'' ``This is another example of Empire updating a classic IP and bringing it to a brand new audience. Double Dragon will launch next Wednesday, and will be our first foray onto Xbox LIVE Arcade. Our announcement of Speedball 2 demonstrates our continued intention to bring high quality classic titles to a broader market,'' said Clive Kabatznik, CEO of Silverstar Holdings.

Am I the only one who prefered Speedball 1? Tighter arena kept everything super instant and crucially it also was written for the Amiga specifically - which meant silky smooth 50fps hardware scrolling. Speedball 2 was an Atari ST port with dithered 4-bit visuals and super juddery 25fps software scrolling...
I assume they'll fix the frame rate in the Live version, but I still think the smaller arena made the game much more playable.

Speedball did play a good game, but I honestly can't say any of it was better than Speedball2. It was pretty much a perfect sequel.
It still plays great too.
Who cares about the FPS!
My 13 year old self loved Speedball 2, and I'm sure my 28 year old self will do too.
As for Speedball 1, I liked it at the time, but thought that its sequel bettered it is every way. As I remember, Speedball 1 was too easy to exploit, whereas 2 had a lot more tactics.

Double Dragon will launch next Wednesday, and will be our first foray onto Xbox LIVE Arcade.
:thumb:
Tron is coming to the 360 Arcade.
Celebrating 25 years of Disney’s most innovative sci-fi franchise ever, the guys and gals at Disney Interactive are re-releasing two classic Tron games for the Xbox 360's Live Arcade. The new (yet old) games will come complete with high-definition visuals and re-mastered sound to take full advantage of the 3-6-0's high-end gaming capabilities.
I loved the entire concept of Tron. To me it was just great stuff. Bringing the Light Cycles into the next-gen arena (even though it’s only on Xbox Live Arcade) is a really great thing and hopefully we’ll see a real version of Tron released for the Xbox 360 or PS3, sometime soon. Meanwhile, all XBLA gamers alike will be able to play the newly enhanced Tron games this summer.
According to the press release, “Each game includes the original version as well as an enhanced version with new graphics and audio features. Through Xbox LIVE Arcade, players can also compete in both games against another player in four online modes.”
At least we know these two games won’t be laggy...well, they better not be. But as usual, you can gather up more information and media at the Official Xbox Live Website.

Street Trace NYC looks like a 100% rip-off of that DC game from way back when (Trickstyle - Cheers KN) - not a bad thing
Mad Tracks looks like it could be aces online !
And Missile Command - Multiplayer over live please.
As for Yie Ar Kung Fu - Jesus Christ why ?
Kotatsu Neko

Green Beret and Track and Field are automatic buys for me, probably Super Contra as well. I'd prefer the C64 port of Green Beret though as it had much better music than the arcade original!
I thought Yie Ar Kung Fu was a Japan exclusive?
And Missile Command belongs on the Wii.
The two 3D games look okay I guess. One could be a decent MarioKart/Re-Volt clone, and the other looks a bit like Trickstyle/Airblade.
No Ikaruga in that list though....

Nice selection of games, I'm so glad I bought a 360 instead of waiting for the wii, the arcade pisses all over the virtual console.
Great to see a racer on the Arcade finally, I'd still have prefered a 2D top down affair but Mad Tracks does look fun, better than the stale real life style that 3D racers usually go for.

More original stuff and less of the retro would be my suggestion - there are some definite classics, but much of the older stuff is only any good through rose tinted glasses. It's quite depressing to me to see so many people requesting old console and arcade games in the comments.
Bubble Bobble and Puzzle Bobble still play very well indeed, especially the later which I regularly play ( and one of the few arcade game I can single credit ), these would probably make good additions to XBLA, but less retro would be my choice, I've already played them.

One of the main MAME coders (Nicola Salmoria) worked with Razorworks on the Double Dragon XBLA emulation. Another well known emu coder, a UK guy named Steve Snake (K-GEN) works with SEGA often on their retro packs, most recently on the Genesis collection for PS2 and PSP.

In an ideal world, MAME would be a free or cheap download that contained NO ROMS, but ROMS could be released for it as additional downloads that cost 200 points each, or something. The original copyright holders would have nothing to do but sign an agreement and then set up a nice little account for money to go into.
The MAME code already contains functionality to load/save the high scores, so these could easily be uploaded to Live to allow leaderboards to be created.
And, though it's been a while since I looked, I think some kind of netplay was introduced a while back too. Kailerra or something, was it called? Again, probably wouldn't be impossible to work this into Live.
Fingers crossed, but it'll never happen.

I like "ancient retro", i spent most of my time playing in the arcades in the mid to late 80's.
Green Beret is pretty decent, but very short. The four levels can be completed in about 10 minutes.
Konami has a pretty big back catalogue of 80's games, some good some bad. Personally i love the original Gradius (Nemesis) and Hypersports.
Anybody remember Iron Horse, Jackal, Jailbreak, Sunset Riders, Combat School, Shou Lin Road etc.....

Who said 720's coming out on XBLA? Did you say 720's coming out on XBLA? I sure do hope 720's coming out on XBLA.
I think we are going to be "treated" to Yie Ar Kung Fu before we can have anything so good as Combat School or Sunset Riders. Although I dont particularly fancy breaking as many 360 pads on Combat School and Hypersports as I did Kempston joysticks...

I think he means that the next Xbox will be called the 720 (360x2).
720 would be a great live arcade game tho.

My #1 childhood arcade machine - the sound of that little intro ditty when you start is ringing in my ears as I type this.
Ignore EVERYTHING I ever said about already having these games on xbox1.

You do realise I now have the Bubble Bobble theme tune in my head? And just before bed time too
Even worse is when it gets to the `warp warp warp` bit and everything gets faster. :s

Would be great wouldn't it. Does seem too early though.
what a pair of turds this week.
I'd have thought the ideal balance is one retro and one original per week if possible.
i love xbla and really want to pick up a small game every week to have a bash with, last few weeks have been pretty grim though.

Worse than that is when the evil shark appears if you take too long - DAN, DA DA DAN !!!!
If they did a week where we got Rainbow Islands & Bubble Bobble I think I'd have to have a day off.

In this months Edge Yak said it was done & dusted (all levels in etc) and they were basically going through the submission requirements to ensure they'd ticked all the boxes prior to submission.
I'm sure he said we'd have it within a month or two and the column would've been writted at LEAST a month ago now !!!

Didn't know tempest was coming - I presume that'll be the original ? :( They could do great things in terms of using the analogue stick for control.

When's the darkness demo due out?
All I've heard is a few weeks before the game's release and unless that changes the game is due at the end of this month so the demo should be any time in the next couple of weeks based on that.

Yeah it's abysmal. Also technically the worst 360 game I've seen (except for those early PS2 ports). Some of the tech is PS1 level (no joke). Truly a complete train wreck of a game.

A rating for Marathon: Durandal has appeared on the USK, which is the German version of the ESRB, leading to speculation that Bungie's classic is on its way to Xbox Live Arcade.
In case you can't remember anything before Master Chief, Marathon was a science fiction first-person shooter published and developed by Bungie back in '94 for the Mac. How times have changed...
There's nothing official from either Microsoft or Bungie on the rumour but we'll keep you posted. Marathon on Live Arcade would ease the cold turkey of the Beta.
