View Full Version : Frogger - XBLA
The Achievements seem fairly well laid out, and the game plays the same as it ever did, but on a large screen it's way too small. Thankfully there's a way to make the image bigger, but ends up with me stretching it to the full length of the screen.
It's a fun little game for 400 points, although is let down by Xbox Live play - which is a laggy pile of rubbish. It really shouldn't affect the game though, since all it has to do is update the opponents screen, yet it makes my Frogger slow. :(

I don't think the achievements will be too hard to get, you just need to concentrate on doing ONE at a time.
Nice little buy for 400 though, my wife might play this actually. Live play was laggy as hell, agreed. Same issues as you though.
The screen is TINY as you said, if you widen it to (near) full screen, you have to alter it again when you play a live game.

I got a couple of the achievements during my lunch break, despite being fairly shit :) I also spent half an hour trying to do the "Five frogs across the road in 45 secs" one, without any success :) Great fun, very addictive, haven't tried the online part yet though.
Shame about having to stretch the screen, although I guess there would be a lot of complaints if they didn't have the original aspect ratio.
Still don't have the five in 45 seconds yet either. :( No idea!

That's the first thing I did :D
I can't say I'm massively impressed with it tbh. As was said, it's really small, and I know it's silly moaning about graphics for a game like this but honestly, it looks like it's been drawn by a 4 year old.
Still, it's Frogger, and it'll be fun for a while!

I'm finding this a lot tougher than I used to!
Got about half the achievements, the ones I'm finding hard are the "eat 3 bugs" and "save 15 frogs without dying once"...I managed 13! Agonising!
Addictive but annoying.

It's great to have this in live arcade.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frogger - Obvious but a good read, the popular culture section is terrific. Hadn't a clue about the Seinfeld episode, or indeed the sugarbabes.

Funny you mention the Sugarbabes quote, as my wife identified it straight away last night :)

Funnily enough, I had a quick go on this last night while Mrs G was falling asleep beside me. I asked her if she'd like a go, expecting a negative response (as she's not into gaming), but to my surprise she said yes and proceeded to spend half-an-hour with it.
She will be assimilated - thankyou XBLA!

Liked it - It's just frogger but it WILL show up the d-pads in some pads - I found the stick better eventually - didn't get to try online but lag will be either persons connection the net-code is pretty much shared across these games and smash tv et-al have been ok when I've played them.
Thought the achievements were very well thought out - couldn't get the "stay on road till timer goes red then make it across" one though.

I prefer the stick to the pad as well, although I still keep making idiotic mistakes all the time, like making my frog jump when he isn't exactly lined up with the home square
I mananged to get both the "stay on the road until the timer is red" achievements, but I'm still stuck on the "get five frogs across in 45 secs" one. Most of my time on it is spent trying to get that one at the mo!

yeah I found the D-Pad horrendous for it, feels wrong playing the game with an analogue stick though, we need a nice clicky microswitched joystick for it :D actually, a retro styled XBLA control stick would be quite nice...

This, is the truth. I can't believe there isn't one already. I know you can get those horribly over priced DOA sticks, but a nice cheap arcade stick would be aceness, especially for Street Fighter.

The net-code is awful for this game, it's fine in Smash TV with loaddds of stuff going on, but this is horrendous when it shouldn't be in the slightest. My connection has 4Mb down and 512Kb up.

xbox D-Pad is a bit dodgy for this. I've just ordered one of these (http://www.hori.jp/us/products/xbox360/horipad_ex_tb/index.html). Hopefully will be useful for when SFII:HF drops.
Anyway, Frogger is bloody addictive :)
Where did you order yours from? Looks decent (the d-pad, the controller looks a mess, heh).

You can get it from LikSang (http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=317&products_id=8687&) and YesAsia (http://global.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/aid-33141/section-games/code-c/version-all/pid-1004094946) too.

That one was a bit confusing to me. I thought it basically meant don't move until the timer goes red. What you actually have to do is leap onto the road straight away, and dodge traffic until the timer goes red. Actually dead easy.
I didn't leap onto the road straight away and still got it. I can't get the level two one, I think it's bust.

I managed to get the level 2 achievement for that, so it must be doable. I actually got it in fewer attempts that the level 1 achievement, strangely enough :) Could be a bug though, I had something crappy happen to me in Oblivion that I haven't heard about anyone else experiencing.

The only ones I need to get still are :
The Co-Op/Multi one
Level 3 completion
Level 4 completion
The most infuriating one for me was getting to eat 3 bugs in one level, that made me "hulk" that one did...

Stretching the screen (which also helps you see more detail) and playing your own music to this does wonders.

Hehe ... then you'll be delighted to know that I got that one entirely by accident. ;)

Hehe ... then you'll be delighted to know that I got that one entirely by accident. ;)Without the time limit it would have been easy, cos you can just keep hopping back and forth...
I found the best way to do it was make sure with my first frog I managed to get one bug, then fill up 2 more slots and leave 2 open...then make sure I don't jump in until they have bugs in...the beauty of having two "homes" open next to each other is that you are never far from them.
Having said that, the time factor makes it all luck anyway.
Great little title for the live arcade though, if a little easy...I expect to have 200/200 by next week (I won't get much playtime before then).
EDIT: Actually its "complete level 4/5" achievements I've yet to do.
Got to level 4 but with one frog left.

I just tried for another hour to get those last three achievements...
I ****ing loathe this game but I will succeed.
Seriously, if I thought Table Tennis nearly destroyed my controller this came closer.
I got to 14 frogs home without dying, the the 15th, about to hop and the very far left log came along and was a ****ING GATOR! Nothing I could do as there was no log below me, and I was nearly off the screen.
How is it possible to get 14 without dying then not be able to do the first level?
How is it possible for such an OLD game to require the most ridiculously precise aim to get the whole frog "home"...doesn't matter if you get 99% of the frog home, that 1% will kill you.
How is it possible to drown MID leap?
I remember why I hated this so, so long ago...it has returned.
I will succeed though, oh mark my words I will.
EDIT : 1 down, got the "Save 15 frogs without dying one"...I let out a massive "YES!!!!!"
Then I saw Level 4...impossible, it takes enough effort to get that far, that level looked insane.
Another why though:
WHY has this game got the worst lag in gaming history ever? Seriously, how hard can the netcode be for it? I even played Yoshimax thinking it was a localisation/area thing, but no...it was better but still lagging...
Rubbish, in a word.

The only achievement i need to get is the co-op one, i dont see me getting that any time soon as LAG really does kill it for me.
Still can believe it's on there.
